Silver Screen

It's that time of the year again...time for Festival de Cannes [14-25 May].

The plans of a film festival in Cannes was first being made in 1938, but owing to WWII the first festival wasn't held until 1946.
What many people probably don't know is that the purpose of the international film fest originally was to compete with the film festival of Venice, which was said to be run by fascists and nazis.

Over the years, tons of glamour and glitz has characterized the festival, and it's guest have had undeniable star quality.
One thing that is interesting is to look at how gala/red carpet-fashion change over the decades, and everything from bikini to full gown has been seen on the starlets.

Above right is a picture of a young Anjelica Huston, with Jack Nicholson at the festival of -69. Her one-shoulder grecian sheet dress is recurrent even in todays fashion, to the left in the shape of a draped, short, one-shoulder dress from Elie Saab's ready-to-wear collection for spring08.

Classic, radiant and wearable.
